To ensure seamless syncing of data, the fields you create in Mailchimp should be able to receive the data received from your CRM. Use the chart below to help determine which field is appropriate for you and then reference these instructions on how to set up your field mapping.
CRM Field Types
| CRM Field Type is: | Create a Mailchimp: | Helpful Notes: |
| Text | Text merge tag | |
| Drop-down or Radio | Group Drop Down merge tag Radio Button merge tag |
If you use a group in Mailchimp, you'll only need to enter one group name during the group creation. Upon syncing, SugarChimp will pre-fill group names and keep them up to date. (Note: Mailchimp has a limit of 60 total group names for a list.) If you use a Drop Down or Radio merge tag, you'll need to enter the options into Mailchimp exactly as they appear in your CRM as they won't be created upon syncing from your CRM. |
| Multi-select | Group | More information about groups can be found here. |
| Checkbox |
Radio Button merge tag |
Your CRM database saves this as 0 or 1. The data that is synced from Sugar will be 0 or unchecked and 1 for checked. |

| Date (for birthday) | Text merge tag | To create this field, please reference this article. |
| Integer, Float, Decimal | Number | |
| Address | Text merge tag | In order to segment data in Mailchimp, it's best to split up your address fields. You can use a Text merge tag for country, another one for city, another one for state, etc. |
| Phone | Phone Text merge tag |
If you use Mailchimp's Phone merge tag, your format must match or you can switch to an international format. |
| Zip | Zip Code (US Only) Text merge tag |
The Zip Code merge tag will only receive zip codes that are 5 digits and will not receive data more or less than 5 digits. For this reason, it's best to use a Text merge tag. |
