GDPR has sparked changes in SugarCRM and Mailchimp to help their users manage contact data. To see more about how to simplify GDPR using SugarChimp, visit us here. The two most common areas of concern SugarChimp can assist with are found below:
1. Consent to Market
Whether you are subject to the GDPR or not, it is always best to obtain proper permission to send communications to your contacts. In light of GDPR, Mailchimp has added the ability to tag an audience as 'GDPR' which adds a unique data set for subscribers to choose which avenues of communication you may use to reach them. Unfortunately, they do not allow integrations or other API actions to view this special data.
What does this mean?
If you want to manage your contact's 'Communication Preferences' within your CRM, then you do not want to use Mailchimp's built-in GDPR tools. On the bright side, we can create the same functionality in Mailchimp by using Groups. If you go that route, then we can sync the GDPR opt-ins back to SugarCRM where your users can easily add and remove subscribers from certain avenues of communication.

2. Handling Data Privacy Requests
If your company is subject to the GDPR, then your contacts can request to have their private data removed from your systems. This means you must remove their personally identifiable information (PII) from SugarCRM as well as Mailchimp.
You could be using SugarCRM's built-in Data Privacy module to handle these requests, or you may have implemented a custom solution of your own. Regardless of how you are handling data privacy requests in the CRM, you will also need to delete the person's data from your Mailchimp account.
SugarChimp gives you the ability to delete all PII from custom SugarChimp modules, as well as records in Mailchimp, with one simple click inside of your CRM. All you need is the requester's email address and Admin access to your CRM. You can remove 1 email address, or multiple email addresses at a time. Here is how:
1. In your CRM, navigate to Admin
2. Click on Data Privacy (in the SugarChimp section)
3. Insert the email address in the text box.
4. Click Erase Data and Accept.
The data removal could take a few seconds to complete. Once completed, the contact with that email address will be deleted from all Mailchimp audiences, and the email address will now show as 'erased' for all related Mailchimp Activities in Sugar. The sub-panel will look something like this:
